First OPSA Surgical Camp of 2018
Mr Riaz is preparing for his next trip to Gujrat, Pakistan, in a few days’ time.
This will be the first of the bi-annual trips for 2018. He will be joined by Mr Diaa Othman to train with him during this camp. Mr Othman is a senior registrar in plastic surgery, soon to take on a Consultant’s position within the NHS.
Mr Othman has a particular interest in cleft surgery, so will benefit from the exposure to so very many patients who come from all over Pakistan.
Mr Chris Theopold, Cleft Surgeon for Ireland, will also join Mr Riaz for the second time. Mr Theopold manages all patients in Ireland born with cleft conditions, from minor to the most complex cases, and can offer his skills for the duration of the camp.
Another visitor this year will be Taseem Ali. Taseem is an A-level student at Hymers College in Hull, who has aspirations to become a doctor!
He wants to use this opportunity to gain work experience and get an insight into what this work involves.
Taseem is a British born Pakistani, and as such is not unfamiliar with the area! To date, and in support of his trip, he has raised more than £1,470 towards the OPSA funds, which is quite an achievement! We wish him well and hope he both enjoys and benefits from his time at the Cleft Hospital. Be warned Taseem – Mr Riaz will work you hard!
Once again our thanks go to all the individuals and organisations who help to make these twice-yearly trips possible.
